Basically, DPI stands for Dots Per Inch, which really is a measurement of how many times your mouse reports its current position to your PC. eDPI means ‘effective Dots Per Inch,’ which is really a formula to find a perfect sensitivity of any player.
What is DPI?
DPI means Dots per inch and if you set your mouse dpi to 800 so your mouse will measure 800 points of movement per inch. If you set your DPI id higher that means you are increasing your mouse speed so if you set your DPI to 400 then it will travel 400 pixels on the screen. You can change your DPI with your mouse software or some mouse has buttons to increase or decrease the DPI most of the gamers use 400 to 1000 DPI some mouse gives you smooth movement on higher DPI so it’s up to you.
What is Sensitivity?
Now you’re thinking about what is sensitivity? so we will explain to you. Sensitivity is an in-game mouse setting. It allows you to increase or decrease your mouse speed with this but it works only in the game it won’t change your desktop sensitivity.
What is eDPI?
Basically, eDPI is a formula that gives you the perfect sensitivity of any type of mouse suppose you purchase a mouse that has 400 DPI and your in-game sensitivity is 2 so the formula for calculating eDPI is
( DPI*Sensitivity = eDPI )
Now find our eDPI 400×2= 800 eDPI. Now we have our eDPI and suppose now we purchase another mouse that has 800 DPI lets do the same thing (800×1= 800 eDPI) now again we have 800 eDPI but this time our sensitivity is 1.
Did you see that? First, we had 2 sensitivity and now we have 1 sensitivity. Believe me, both sensitivities are the same just because of eDPI so keep in mind always remember your eDPI. You can find your sensitivity on any type of mouse or any DPI.
